Tess Team Cares Mission Day
I have been very fortunate in life to have so many wonderful friends, a close family, travel, and a job that I love. When I visit downtown Salt Lake and other cities it is sometimes incredibly sad to see the homeless population and with Covid it seems that it has increased.
This is the story of how Tess Team Cares came about. One afternoon two friends were trying to figure out what to do with two replaced sofa bed mattresses. We had the idea to take them to downtown and hit the street in an area where many homeless people live. We stuffed them in the back of my SUV and found a street with an abundance of tents we got out of the car, opened the back, and asked a couple of people if they would like the mattresses. They said absolutely YES! While we were getting the mattresses out, they saw blankets and hats in my car and asked if they could have them as well. We started giving out the articles and unfortunately there wasn’t a lot. We immediately felt that we needed to do something to help. We discussed this with multiple other women in our group and they agreed, and we wanted to help out.
The plan is to twice a year spend one day in the winter and spring on the street handing out care packages of items appropriate for the season to those who are homeless. We also plan to keep care packages in our cars for those we see asking for help. What we are hoping is that there are more of us out there willing to give a little to help fund the care packages. We have all been donating our time and resources to this cause and would love to do this a on bigger scale in the near future.
We are on December 18th going to partner with the Salt Lake Mission to give out care packages as well as be on the street for those that are not visiting the mission. We are hoping to get to 250+ care packages of socks, hats, gloves, toiletries, and other items for the winter season. Any donations will be greatly appreciated and will go 100% to the Tess Team Cares day to help the homeless this winter season.
